This island is particularly well known to sailors and is a popular stopover for cruise ships. The regatta time in July is an exciting highlight in the island's calendar of events, even for
non-sailors.
Deep sea fishing and bone fishing are among other water sports activities.
Golfers can play at the Abaco Club on Winding Bay and the Treasure Cay Golf Club.
The 40 meter high red and white striped lighthouse of Hope Town is one of the landmarks of the island and affords a panoramic view of the cays (small islands) scattered in the turquoise
waters.
Architecturally, Abaco exhibits a colourful cultural mix: The first settlers from New England built their houses in the familiar style of their homeland, and even today you might believe you
were in the streets in 18th century New England - if it weren't for the colourful Bahamian parrots, the bright sunlight and the fine white beaches.
